First live test of Breeze!

Nordic wind map and speed information display.

The Breeze service has been developed in collaboration with Norwegian ports to provide visiting vessels with easy and direct access to relevant real-time observations of weather and wind upon arrival. The data presented is collected from measurement stations operated by the Norwegian Coastal Administration and the ports themselves, strategically placed to provide representative snapshots of local conditions, thereby contributing to safe navigation and docking for visiting vessels.

Flåm Port in Aurland, one of Norway’s most visited cruise ports, is the first to implement the service. The cruise ship MSC Euribia reported great benefit from using the service during its call at Flåm in week 41.

“We have already started using Breeze in cooperation with the cruise ships visiting Flåm. The tool provides the ship’s bridge with important real-time information and has become a very useful instrument during approaches to the quay,” says Antonia Castellano, Operations Manager at Flåm Port.

Port Director Tor Mikkel Tokvam adds: “We contacted Scanmatic this spring with a description of our needs, based on requests from our international clients. Scanmatic has been very accommodating and solved the task excellently. Feedback from both ships and shipping offices has been overwhelmingly positive. We look forward to continued cooperation in the operational phase and see great potential in further developing the functionality.”

A simplified version of Breeze is also available free of charge.
