Scanmatic AS is proud to deliver a comprehensive instrumentation project for Statkraft’s Alta Dam, one of Norway’s most impressive concrete dams. The dam, which stands 145 meters tall and was completed in 1986, is now receiving a full upgrade of its monitoring systems. With new requirements for extended monitoring, we aim to ensure the long-term safety and stability of both the dam and the surrounding area.
Through the installation of advanced sensors, we will monitor the temperature of water, air, and rock, as well as measure pore pressure, water levels, leakages, pendulum deflections, and accelerations. Additionally, prisms will be installed on the dam wall and in the surrounding area, enabling annual measurements of structural and terrain movements. The water temperature sensors will be mounted on a sensor string and secured with ice protection down to a depth of 40 meters, installed by divers, to withstand the impact of ice masses in the dam.
The project is carried out in close collaboration with X5 Elektro, BJ Bertheussen Vedlikehold, Nordisk Fjellsikring, and Andersen Arbeidsdykking, and is a large-scale project that we at Scanmatic look forward to completing to support Statkraft in securing the Alta Dam for the future.
