Upgrade to NB-IoT

The SM5038 makes establishing online data collection via NB-IoT incredibly simple. The video from NVE’s HT Academy demonstrates how quickly a conventional measurement point for water flow monitoring, previously limited to local logging, can be upgraded to online measurement with real-time data continuously available via H2Cloud.

The SM5038 is waterproof (IP67) and features a built-in battery, NB-IoT, Bluetooth, and GPS (for clock synchronization and positioning). The logger is available in multiple versions with different plug-in I/O options for sensor connections, including SDI-12, RS485, and RTD. Battery life ranges from 3 to 10 years, depending on the number of channels and measurement frequency.

The unit shown in the video is also capable of withstanding full submersion. When water levels rise above the logger’s position during a flood, it continues to measure and log data locally until the water recedes, and the antenna is exposed again with network coverage. This ensures valuable time series data around flood peaks for immediate analysis and learning.
